African American Student Union (AASU)
This organization exists to instill pride in its members; develop a sense of
community and fellowship; promote unity on campus and in the community; and
identify the importance of solidarity, awareness, and image to create an
environment that perpetuates academic success and cultural awareness.
Student Organization of Latinas/os (SOL)
This organization exists to promote diversity, provide a safe haven of
fellowship; challenge the social status of Latin Americans; introduce cultural
awareness; and increase the development of self-awareness, self-esteem, and
self-identification as they pertain to cultural growth and development.
Multicultural Club
This organization strives to promote the need to gain an understanding of
diversity to the campus community, the City of Strom Lake, and society at large.
The group deals with cultural understanding and many celebrations of different
ethnic backgrounds.
International Club
This organization exists to promote international/ intercultural awareness and
interaction for the students of BVU. This organization is designed to provide a
support system for international faculty, staff, and students.
TimeOut
TimeOut is a student-run organization that works with the university and community to raise
awareness about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight Alliance issues (GLBTSA).
The organization furthers its mission through ACES events, campus and community builders.
TimeOut hosts a pride week in both fall and spring semester, which consists of entertainment
and educational venues that both serve a learning experience with the enjoyment of being together
with people and having fun. TimeOut welcomes all members, regardless of sexual orientation.
TimeOut strives to help improve the quality of life for Buena Vista University students,
faculty, staff and members of surrounding communities.
Women of Color (WOC)
This is an organization in which women of color discuss and implement
programs that contribute to the uplift and well being of their community. Its
aim is to promote our cultural identity in our communities through service and
education; to serve as a base for leadership skills and networking; and to
create a unified and diversified environment for the betterment of the
organization. This organization fosters the personal growth and development of
colored women in order to encourage pride, strength, sisterhood,
spirituality/health, unity, and substance through community service, education,
and association of people.
