In some web browsers (usually non-Microsoft browers), two black boxes will appear in the
video window-- one over the video, and one over the Real Player controls. Close those boxes by
clicking the gray "X" in the upper right-hand corner of each one, and the video should appear
and play normally.
When clicking "Launch in external player," some browsers will launch the RealPlayer application
within the window. If you encounter a "page not found"
error page (or similiar error window), take the following steps.
1. Launch your computer's Real Player application.
2. Select Open from the File menu. An separate window will open.
3. Copy and paste one of the following URLs into the window:
rtsp://www.bvu.edu/broadcast/kbvu.rm (audio streaming)
or
rtsp://www.bvu.edu/broadcast/live.rm (video streaming)
Then click OK.
The streaming audio or video should appear in your Real Player window.
Often Real Player needs to test the internet connections and
performance of the computer to optimize the video and sound quality. The
following steps will help guide you through this process.
1.
Open Real Player. In the application, find the tools menu and then slide the mouse over to
the preferences button and left-click on it. The menu can be hidden due to
the restricted window size. The picture to the right shows how to navigate
to the tools --> preferences options.
2.
A dialog box will come on the screen after clicking on the preferences button.
There will be a navigation bar on the left hand side and options to choose from
on the right window. Find the connection button as shown in the red box on
the right. Click on the connection button for more options.
3.
A list of options for the internet connections will come up after clicking on
the connections button. Let Real Player test your internet connection by
clicking on the "Test Connection" button in the center of the page. This
is highlighted in the picture to the right. Advanced users can choose
their internet connection speeds under the drop down menus.
4.
A dialog box will appear after clicking on the test connection button. It
will look similar to the photo on the right. Click on the "Perform Test"
button in the lower right hand corner of the box. This will begin the
connection test, which will take approximately 5 to 15 seconds in length.
5.
When the test is complete, the window will change to an update box. Real
Player will give recommendations to change your settings to optimize your Real
Player viewing experience. Click on the "Update" button to let Real Player
make the necessary changes for you. A dialog box will let you know the
changes have been made. For certain versions of Real Player, it may ask
you if you want to enable "Turbo Play", which will boost video performance.
If this box comes up, click on the "Turn it on" button to enable turbo play.
6. The internet connection and other settings have been optimized for your Real
Player. Click on the "OK" button in the lower right-hand corner of the box
to continue with all of the changes and get back to watching your Buena Vista
University streaming video or sound presentation.
