Getting Podcasts with Juice (and iTunes)

What are Podcasts?

"Podcasting" is the method for distributing audio or video files to a subscriber through a feed. This means that if you subscribe to a particular podcast (such as a radio news segment from NPR), those audio files will download automatically to your computer. There are programs that allow you to subscribe to podcasts and automatically receive the new files so you don’t have to go to the website to see if there is anything new.

What is Juice?

Juice is a program that works much like a RSS Feed does for blogs, which means video and audio files can be “delivered” right to your computer if you subscribe to a podcast. Juice is an easy way to access and manage all of your podcasts.

  3. Juice will automatically open up the podcast for you to listen in with iTunes. However, it is possible for you to change your default media player for Juice.
  4. To do so, simply go to File, Preferences, and then in the Preferences window, select Player. From the list of media players, simply select the one you wish to use from then on. Once you have selected the one that you would prefer to use, hit Save.
  5. Another feature of Juice allows you to delete Episodes after so long of a period. Go to Feed Properties then select Cleanup. Choose the number of days you want old material to be viewed for. Once that number of days has passed, old material will be automatically be deleted.

Note: You can also manage your podcasts using iTunes in much the same way you can manage them with Juice. The format of the multimedia files will need to be in a format iTunes can recognize such as mp3 or QuickTime. To subscribe to a podcast through iTunes, you can browse for free and popular podcasts in the music store and click Subscribe. You can also manually subscribe if you know the feed URL, by going to Advanced and selecting Subscribe to Podcast.
