Rev. Ken Meissner Installed as University Chaplain

Rev. Ken Meissner was formally installed by the Prospect Hill Presbytery as Chaplain of Buena Vista University in a ceremony held February 7, 2002, at Schaller Memorial Chapel.

Rev. Meissner has served full-time as chaplain since January 2000 after previously working on an interim basis in the fall of 1999. After receiving his divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, he served as pastor at the Alta Presbyterian Church in Alta, Iowa, before coming to BVU.

In nurturing the growth of campus religious and spiritual life, Rev. Meissner looks forward to new opportunities for expansion of faith work thanks to “The Reverend Henry G. Eggink and Lucille Eggink Endowment,” which was created by a gift of nearly $1 million from the estate of Rev. Henry G. Eggink for the purpose of enhancing the student Christian mission program. Rev. Eggink, who served as professor of philosophy and religion at BV for 21 years, died in March 2001. His wife, Lucille, passed away in 1998.

A MONUMENTAL OPPORTUNITY
A lot has happened in my 6 1/2 years as president of Buena Vista University. However, nothing has been more exciting and inspirational than the historic opportunity we are announcing in this issue of Buena Vista Today — a $13 million matching challenge gift from an anonymous donor to build a new science center on the Storm Lake campus.
