A MONUMENTAL OPPORTUNITY
A lot has happened in my 6 1/2 years as president of Buena Vista University. However, nothing has been more exciting and inspirational than the historic opportunity we are announcing in this issue of Buena Vista Today — a $13 million matching challenge gift from an anonymous donor to build a new science center on the Storm Lake campus.

THE MARGIN OF EXCELLENCE Buena Vista University would not be what it is today without donor support for its endowment fund. Student tuition and fees, as well as annual donations from alumni and friends, make up a large share of BVU’s revenue stream, but the endowment fund helps ensure long-term fiscal stability.

LET FREEDOM RING On the morning of September 11, 2001, members of the Buena Vista University community were overwhelmed with the same emotions people throughout the United States felt that day, shock and numbness.
PINGREY FAMILY'S LASTING GIFT
George and Ruth Pingrey of Sac City have long had an interest in Buena Vista. George graduated from the Normal Training Division of the college in 1936, with a teacher’s certificate. Ruth attended a church camp on campus during her high school years. Later their daughter, Cheryl, took summer school classes at BV. But the Pingreys were totally surprised — and delighted — by a Christmas gift they received in 1998.
