Order of the Arch
The Order of the Arch derives its name from an historic moment in
the life of Buena Vista University. On September 27, 1956, the University's
main building burned to the ground. A group of dedicated and determined
supporters sprang to the aid and saved the college for future generations.
The arch of the old building's entry stands today above the main
entrance of the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business / Siebens
Forum as a monument to their extraordinary effort. It is known
as the Victory Arch.
The Board of Trustees established the Order of the Arch in 1963
as an expression of gratitude to the many individuals who support
Buena Vista. The Board acknowledged the dependence of the
University on the continued assistance - whether in the form
of annual giving, capital gifts, or deferred gifts - of an
ever-widening circle of concerned and loyal friends.
Membership in the Order honors today's benefactors as
colleagues of the original group that helped save the
University in 1956.
Within the Order of the Arch are the following honors for annual gifts:
- Trustee's Circle - gifts of $10,000 or more
- President's Circle - gifts of $5,000 to $9,999
- Dean's Circle - gifts of $2,500 to $4,999
- Keystone Society - gifts of $1,000 to $2,499
Order of the Arch members are eligible to attend select campus
cultural events in BVU's Academic and Cultural Events Series. Visit

Z.Z. White Heritage Society
Named to honor Zeno Z. White, longtime Buena Vista University
trustee, this society was established to recognize individuals who
remember BVU in their estate plans, through life income plans or
life insurance. The Whites established the Z.Z. and Madge D. White
Memorial Scholarship Fund with two substantial charitable gift
annuities and a major bequest of more than $300,000.
Membership in the Z.Z. White Heritage Society provides the donor with
an opportunity to expand upon the vision of the BVU founders, to
influence the future of the University and to make a statement of
support to others. Ways to enter the Z.Z. White Heritage Society
include:
- A bequest directing assets from one's estate to BVU;
- A plan providing income to oneself or a survivor for life
or for a term of years and directing the remainder to BVU;
- A life insurance policy in which BVU is the owner and
irrevocable beneficiary; or
- A charitable lead trust in which annual income is
directed to BVU for a term of years.
