Student Health Insurance

Buena Vista University is vitally interested in making your college academic and personal experience meaningful and successful. Your health and wellness are key components of that experience.

It is the University's policy that all full time students (12 credit hours or more) and/or any student residing on campus, regardless of full or part time status, be covered by health insurance. As a student matching the criteria mentioned above you will automatically be included under the Buena Vista University Student Accident & Illness Insurance program through Markel Insurance Company for the annual fee of $408.00 unless you waive this coverage prior to August 25, 2008.

All students must designate their intent to either enroll in the school insurance plan or waive this coverage and provide proof of equivalent coverage via the new online system prior to the first date of classes, August 25, 2008. Information on how to enroll in or waive coverage will be sent this summer with your student billing statement. Please watch for it and follow the instructions promptly to avoid being charged for this insurance coverage. A summary card outlining the coverage offered by Markel will be included in that mailing as well. Please consider your coverage options carefully. While a parent's employee plan may provide adequate benefits close to home, HMO or PPO restrictions may limit coverage for students out of state or your local area.

Insurance Waiver completed online by August 25, 2008. Go to www.studentassist.com and 0671 as the password. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Health Services at extension 1238 or the Business Office at extension 2134.
