Buena Vista University will award up to 40 scholarships annually in the amount of $1,000 each to students who:
- Have submitted a completed scholarship application and essay (see information below). The application also contains a section for verification from their chapter advisor or community college Registrar.
- Are members in good standing of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society or were members in good standing at the time of their community college enrollment.
- Have maintained or did maintain a cumulative transfer grade point average of 3.5 or better.
- Are enrolled as a full-time student with BVU.
- Have graduated with an Associate of Art’s or Associate of Science degree.
- Have not earned a Bachelor’s degree.
Awards in the amount of $500 will be dispersed for new students starting Term 3 if funds are available.
Essay: Applicants are required to submit a 250-word, typewritten essay along with their application form. This year’s essay topic is: “How I have personally applied the four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa into my educational and/or community experiences?”
The BVU Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship can be renewed for a second year. An additional $1,000 will be available for those awardees that have:
- Successfully completed 24 hours of credit at BVU.
- Maintained a 3.00 or higher grade point average.
- Are enrolled full-time in their second consecutive year.
REVIEW OF THE APPLICATIONS WILL BEGIN MAY 12, 2008.
FINAL DATE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS IS AUGUST 22, 2008.
AWARDS WILL BE MADE ON A ROLLING, FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS.
