Buena Vista University will award up to 40 scholarships annually in the amount of $1,000 each to students who:

• Have submitted a completed scholarship application and essay (see information below). The application also contains a section for verification from their chapter advisor or community college Registrar.
• Are members in good standing of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society or were members in good standing at the time of their community college enrollment.
• Have maintained or did maintain a cumulative transfer grade point average of 3.5 or better.
• Are enrolled as a full-time student with BVU.
• Have graduated with an Associate of Art’s or Associate of Science degree.
• Have not earned a Bachelor’s degree.

Awards in the amount of $500 will be dispersed for new students starting Term 3 if funds are available.

Essay: Applicants are required to submit a 250-word, typewritten essay along with their application form. This year’s essay topic is: “How I have personally applied the four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa into my educational and/or community experiences?”

The BVU Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship can be renewed for a second year. An additional $1,000 will be available for those awardees that have:

• Successfully completed 24 hours of credit at BVU.
• Maintained a 3.00 or higher grade point average.
• Are enrolled full-time in their second consecutive year.
