When Buena Vista College first fielded a football team in 1893, they played exclusively high school and town teams. When the squad recorded a Thanksgiving Day 6-0 shutout over Morningside College on November 24th, 1898, it marked the first intercollegiate football game in school history and began a proud tradition that continues today. In 2005, Buena Vista celebrated its 100th season of intercollegiate football.

While some rules have changed over the years, the competitive spirit lives on. The Buena Vista football program has boasted over 25 head coaches, 243 all-conference players, 39 All-Americans, and a total of six official conference championships.
