When Paul Buchheit SL'04 first interned as an athletic trainer with a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox during his senior year at BVU, he set in motion a connection that eventually led to a full-time position with that organization.
His first internship with the Red Sox organization was with the Sarasota Red Sox from March to August of 2004. While he was attending graduate school at the University of Northern Iowa, during the summer of 2005 he interned with the Lowell Spinners, the short season A affiliate. During his last year at UNI, he accepted the position of head athletic trainer/strength and conditioning coach for the Greenville Drive, a Low A affiliate in Greenville, S.C.
"The BVU athletic training staff got me well started on my career path by providing much needed direction and mentoring during my upper level years," says Paul. "Chris Todden, athletic training program director, helped me land an internship with the Sioux City (Iowa) Explorers, an independent league baseball team, and then encouraged me to apply for an internship with the Red Sox organization. My experience with the Explorers helped me during the interviews for the Red Sox internship."
