What a Great Way to Make a Living

Dr. Martha (Glasgow) Caron SL'94, a conservation biologist at the Minnesota Zoo, plays a key role in the zoo's efforts to protect endangered species of animals from extinction. "The most fulfilling part of my job is having an impact on preserving these species for future generations," she says. "Making a connection with people about the importance of conservation, and seeing them get excited about helping to preserve these animals, is a real joy for me."

Martha works for Dr. Ronald Tilson, the director of conservation at the zoo, who leads the world-wide conservation efforts to save the Sumatran Tiger from extinction. She also coordinates the work to protect the world population of the Pallas Cat, which is about the size of a large house cat and is found primarily in Central Asia.

BVU alumni such as Martha have found success in almost every walk of life - from careers as scientists, classroom teachers, business executives, attorneys, and accountants to social workers, journalists, health care professionals, and many others. For the most part, they are in the professions they had prepared for in college. Yet other alumni have found that life can take you in different directions, leading to interesting careers that are a little out of the mainstream but offer their own rewards and personal satisfaction.
