Debra Cochran, Senior Athletic Training Major, has accepted a graduate assistant position at Kansas State University at the Chester E. Peters Recreational Complex. Debra will be pursing her graduate degree in Kinesiology or Student and Personnel. Congratulations, Debra!!
Keely Cassidy, Senior Athletic Training Major, will be traveling to University College Cork in County Cork, Ireland for a semester starting in September 2008. She will be studying the Celtic language as well as taking literature and history classes while volunteering in the medical field. Good luck with your studies, Keely!
Congratulations to Erin Williams, Tate Anderson, Ali Bunde, Meghan Anderson, Greg Wilkerson, Jocelyn Kock, Samantha Narverson, Melody Reding, and Erica Post who have been provisionally accepted to start in the Athletic Training Education Program in the fall.
Kelly Quinlin and Mary Meier came on campus to speak to the students about the demands of working in the athletic training profession and raising a family at the same time. Kelly, a certified athletic trainer, shared her experiences at Northwest Missouri State University while Mary Meier, a certified athletic trainer at Iowa State, gave her insight to working Division I Volleyball. Three junior athletic training students took advantage of the J-Term session and ventured out to further their education by participating in off-campus internships. Katie Berlin interned at Sports Rehab, while Nicole Hansen spent time at Integrity Physical Therapy which are both located in Storm Lake, IA. Dani Hemingson made the trek to Houston, TX to gain experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) to work as a fitness technician.
Chris Todden, Program Director and Head Athletic Trainer at Buena Vista University, completed his Doctorate of Education degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Congratulations, Chris!
Seven senior athletic training majors attended the Annual Senior Trip designed to give upperclassmen students the opportunity to see different setting in the profession They started the trip at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and then made a little jump over to see Mike Wright an alum of BVU at South Sioux City High School. The next two stops were at Northwest Missouri State University and Kansas State University. Keely Cassidy, Matt Hanson, Brandi Sykora, Andrea Denker, Debra Cochran, Jayke Vallette, and Adrienne Scott all enjoyed this opportunity.
Matt Hanson, senior athletic training major, has recently accepted a graduate assistantship offer from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN. Matt will start working with the Mustang athletic teams in January 2008 and will also be working towards a Master's of Science degree in Education with an emphasis in Sports Leadership.
