Areas of Study

In keeping with Buena Vista University's tradition of a comprehensive teaching institution dedicated to "education for service," the Music Department provides a curriculum that prepares students for professional careers and life-long learning.

The Buena Vista University music program offers degree programs in three areas:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education:

This program is recommened for those who wish to gain teacher certification. An emphasis in choral or instrumental teaching may be elected, or by adding appropriate hours, students may prepare in both areas.

Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance:

This program provides a background for students prparing for performing careers in vocal or instrumental music. By adding the appropriate music education courses, students may combine teaching certification with their bachelor of arts degree.

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts Management:

This career is designed to prepare students for careers in the administration and management of the creative arts fields. The major provides students with a core of coursework in a specialty field and the practical experience of an administrative internship.
