Annamaria Formichella-Eldsen and Adam
Schenck taking a break between Senior Seminar Presentations. |
Buena Vista University Assistant Professor of English Annamaria
Formichella-Eldesn says…
"English is a fascinating major because it offers so many possibilities, both
while a student is at BVU as well as after graduation. The general heading
"English" includes studies in creative writing and composition; American,
British and European literatures; critical theory; and other literary
traditions. Students can pursue a range of subjects in their classes while also
preparing themselves for a variety of professional futures. Because this major
encompasses such a broad range of skills, students can pursue careers in almost
any field. What occupation doesn't demand mastery of language, critical thinking
abilities, and creativity?"
Buena Vista University Instructor of English Katherine Kapitan says…
Opportunity--an English Major has the ability to explore diverse interests (we
have a lot of double majors). You can't predict the future (career, community, family, and personal interests will change and develop); however, the ability to
critically think, read, and write is valued in our society, and I can't imagine
that changing. An English Major can become passionately involved in life.

Buena Vista University Instructor of English Marie Moeller says…
“With the faculty present here on campus, you have a wide variety of interest
and skill, all of which is very accessible to students. There are also great
opportunities in the forms of scholarships, internships and graduate school
information/advising that make the English program at Buena Vista well rounded
and extremely helpful in beginning a career in English.”
